Coeur D'Alene, Idaho (AP) - The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is
decreasing the number of moose hunting tags available for northern
Idaho.
Department spokesman Phil Cooper told the Coeur d'Alene Press that the moose population has remained steady
in Idaho's panhandle, despite population declines in other parts of
Idaho and Montana.
Overall, Fish and Game Commissioners added two moose bull tags and five
antlerless tags to the panhandle region and they added four antlerless
tags to the Clearwater region. But they reduced 51 bull tags in the
Clearwater region to reflect population changes in the area.
Hunters can only take one moose in their lifetime, and Cooper says the
department expects a 90 percent success rate for the number of tags
released each year.
